Last week we celebrated Club Secretary, player, and all-round star, Mike Buchan, who was honoured with an Alan Albury Lifetime Achievement Award at Kent Cricket’s Volunteers Day.
For 17 years (and counting!), Mike has shown incredible dedication and hard work in everything Sidcup CC—coaching our women’s and junior sections, managing teams, taking on countless committee roles for SCC and Sidcup Sports Club, lending a hand at events, fixing things around the grounds, and still somehow finding time to play. On top of all that, he also serves on the North Kent Junior League committee, helping to grow the game for young cricketers across the area. Mike’s commitment and tireless effort are a driving force behind the club’s success, even if we’re still not sure how he fits it all into one day.
This marks the third year in a row that Sidcup CC volunteers have been recognised by Kent Cricket, with many more honoured in previous years—highlighting the vital role our volunteers play, from tackling small tasks behind the scenes to leading major projects, ensuring the club continues to thrive both now and in the future.
Thank you for everything, Mike—and a huge shout-out to all our amazing volunteers who keep the club thriving (and occasionally wondering if they need a Mike of their own).
