Sidcup 11A vs Chislehurst and West Kent

Rob Solway

Sidcup U11A return to winning ways with a 135 win away to C&WK

On what was a very hot night and a very dry barren looking pitch, the 11As fired themselves to a landslide win to move into 3rd place in the league and just 4 points off top position.

After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, a fantastic display of line and length bowling saw Chislehurst and West Kents batter struggle to get the ball off the square which gave Sidcup incentive to squeeze in to add more pressure and try to force C&WKs batters to go over the top. Even when they took some risks and tried to hit big CWK were continuously pegged back by the loss of wickets thanks to a series of sharp run outs and wickets from:

  • James Tayor - 1 wicket for 2 runs including 1 maiden
  • Seth Philip - 1 wicket for 10 runs
  • Theo Land - 1 wicket for 3 runs
  • Max Cone - 2 wickets for 9 runs
  • Ollie Rawlings - 2 wickets for 9 runs
  • Murphy Solway - 2 wickets for 11 runs

In our batting innings, Theo and Seth got us off to a great start with a net 32 run partnership.

James and Noah followed up with 36 runs, before Hughie (who top scored on 24 not out) and Aarav added another 44 runs.

By this point fever pitch had set in and the next two pairs found runs harder to come due to thinking that all they had to do was swing hard and muscle the ball around the pitch. A decent first over from Murphy and Vihaan brought 4 runs off a much improved line and length faced by any of the other pairs. However, despite a couple of boundaries some rash shots (which frankly lacked respect the bowling deserved) resulted in both batters missing out on an opportunity to take more runs than they eventually ended with to finish on a net partnership of 21.

Ollie and Max rounded us off with a net 25 run partnership.

A good win for the U11As and what will hopefully bring a confidence boost after a recent run that contained two super close losses against Bexley and Blackheath and an uncharacterstic poor performance against Dartford.
