Under 11Bs hit the ground running

Rob Solway

Despite losing 9 wickets the U11Bs still manage to win by 97 runs against local rivals Bexleyheath

After winning the toss, Sidcup elected to field and rotated bowlers throughout the innings. The plan worked well, with plenty of dot balls created through tight and disciplined bowling. On another day, there could have been even more wickets, with several deliveries narrowly missing the stumps. Pick of the bowling figures came from Noah Selby who ended with 1 wicket for 5 runs, Tommy Golding who ended 1 wicket for 6 runs and Hazel Uppal who finished with 2 wickets for 8 runs

The fielding effort matched the bowling quality, with great energy shown across the team. There was consistent backing up, sharp awareness in the field, and excellent work behind the wickets by our two wicket keepers who shared the duties, helping to restrict Bexleyheath to 81/8.

Chasing a modest total, Sidcup’s opening pair got off to a strong start, scoring freely and setting the tone. The first pair put together an excellent partnership, including a standout innings of 28 not out from Reece Hiller which featured a number of well-struck boundaries, supported by some composed and well-placed batting at the other end by Hazel Uppal.

The next pair added useful runs but also saw a couple of wickets fall, which became a theme through the innings. There were some brilliant shots played, alongside a few loose ones that led to wickets being given away. The last pair of Noah Selby and Finley Watts hit some lusty blows towards the end, and even with 9 wickets lost, Sidcup were comfortably ahead and saw the game out confidently.

Learnings:
There is plenty to build on—particularly converting tight bowling into more wickets and being more selective with shot choice to reduce unnecessary dismissals.

A fantastic team performance, played in great spirit with excellent energy and clear signs of progress.
