Having lost lost the toss against Bromley CC, Sidcup were put to bat only to immediately regret some poor decision making as Sidcup lost two early wickets to run out.
Our openers, Fin and Ryan, recovered by scoring 10 runs off the first over over but couldn’t continue the same momentum adding only another couple of runs by end of second over moving the score board to 12/2.
The second pair, Midhun and Jacob, went about their work with steady scoring and collecting 21 runs from next two overs without loosing any wicket thanks to good decision making and communication resulting in some excellent running between the wickets.
The final pair of Felicity and William started the fireworks scoring 21 runs in 5th over with some good shots. The pair went on to score another 14 runs in the final over but unfortunately another costly mix up between the wickets resulted in a third wicket falling to hand a total of 9 bonus runs to Bromley. Shot of the day went to William’s straight six which even oppositions team and supporters stood to applaud.
With the ball, Jacob started the innings followed by Felicity. Despite their best efforts Bromley had raced to 29 runs in first couple of overs. Ryan bowled a tidy over with some tight lines giving only 4 runs in 3rd over, and Fin continued the same in 4th over. The breakthrough finally arrived after 4.2 overs in Midhun’s over, with reward for some exceptional fielding from Fin. Entering the final over with only 7 runs needed Bromley were in control. Despite some tense moments Bromley managed to score 18 runs to win by a net score of 11 runs.
Lots to learn again for our young cricketers as with some small improvements in running between the wickets and avoiding overthrows what was a narrow loss could easily have been a clear victory. We go again next week in the final match of the winter indoor season.
