Sidcup won the toss and elected to bowl first. A wicket off the second ball of the innings from Sonny set the tone! Controlled bowling and lots of energy in the field restricted Farningham's run rate and then a wicket in the fourth over from Hamilton put the brakes on further. The next four overs from Luca and Liezel (2 each) conceded net 6 runs including a caught and bowled from Luca applied the pressure eve more. William B and Henry with a good line and length bowled overs 9 - 12 with the scoreboard moving slowly. The final four overs from Jacob (2), Hamilton and Sonny largely reflected the previous 12 despite facing Farningham's strongest player. Throughout the innings William M was a revelation behind the stumps despite it being his first time as a wicketkeeper - very little made it past him! A strong and spirited fielding performance resulted in Farningham scoring a net 252.
Sidcup's innings started with Hamilton and Sonny opening the batting with excellent striking and quick singles putting on 24 runs in their four overs. Liezel and Luca were the next pair out and accelerated the scoring with some excellent communication and rapid running putting on a further 33 - Sidcup ahead by the halfway stage of their innings - but in pairs...caution is always needed! The two Williams were next out...with a bit of freedom and some good ball striking from William B (including 2 fours in successive deliveries) runs ticked over despite a couple of wickets falling. The final four overs from Henry and Jacob were just what was needed...controlled running and limiting chances for Farningham along with some tidy shots. Sidcup finished on 283 - a 31 run victory in their first match in this format!
Team camaraderie, spirit and support were in evidence for all to see and the watching home support commented on that also. A fantastic first result - well done Sidcup!
